2007 Coleraine  

Coleraine, and the trip to the tip of Ireland.  Although it was a long journey (depending on where you started of course) this weekend was thoroughly worth the effort.  HM Coastguard put on a splendid weekend, and food to match!  The theme of this years Challenge was James Bond, which tied in with the 07 events (2007, 2nd year of event, 007, geddit?) Each of the events had a Bond movie theme that added a great dimension to all the tasks laid out.  And the 007 JSAR shirts were cool too!

 Accommodation was in the nearby University of Ulster campus where everyone got a room to themselves!  The events were centered round the Cranagh Marina, and those that were not, had transport laid on.  The weather was grand, and it was great to see so many like minded volunteers enjoying themselves.  Entertainment on the Friday night was excellent, and really got everyone going.  A whole barbequed pig also helped keep people happy! 

Events

• Search – find bits of evidence in the woods.
• Throw Bag
• Equipment – combo of knots and rigging a motor to raise a flag
• Boating – paddle a kayak and recover a ‘body’ from a liferaft
• First Aid - this had the wow factor of having a real airplane, complete with screaming casualties and smoke and explosions!  Who remembers Pussy Galore hanging from a tree?
• Compass & Pacing
• Gold Bars – cross the dangerous floor under the gaze of wandering guards.
• Driving – A carpark, a jeep, a blindfolded driver & co-pilot, a guy in a trailer with a radio, and a guy in the middle of the carpark waving his arms?  Surprisingly, no-one got hurt!
